Doppelganger | page 4
“This guy is a threa’t. Even though thad he’s tryin’ so hard ta be friends with me. Whad if he’s nice? But whad if he’s jus’ actin’? Whad if I’m already in his trap?!” Casual Aadvay thought process… I feel like all he does is act out of fear.

Aadvay's Australian accent, as mentioned on the previous page, becomes much harsher on this page, mainly because he’s super scared of how close Jinji is. According to Cat, his words get very slurred and fast when he’s scared. Aadvay feels very threatened by Jinji as he doesn't yet know him, and feels intimidated by Jinji's continued interest in him.

By the way, I'm supposed to be on tip-toes on the second frame, since I'm trying to peer over Aadvay's shoulder. Cat apologizes if this isn't clear, since she had trouble imagining the posing; though personally, I think she did a great job!

Comic Description & Plot Outline

A collaboration between myself and the Deviant Artist, Cat (https://www.deviantart.com/silverbettaCCT), based on a role-play we performed with one another. It serves mainly as an introduction and character building for Cat’s new Gengar OC, Aadvay, but is also a reflection of our newfound friendship with each other, as told through our characters. This comic is still being worked on, so come back soon for further pages!

References

The title of this comic is a dual pun — referring to the main characters being two Gengar (“double Ganger”), and referencing a common theory as to how the Gengar species became so named. Gengar are well-known for their ability to slip into people’s shadows and imitate them, essentially becoming the “double” of their shadow; just as in German folklore, doppelganger are people or beings who are perceived to be the double of another.
